Bricks 4 Kidz
Bricks 4 Kidz after-school classes build on the universal popularity of LEGO® bricks to deliver a high quality of educational play.
Kids construct a new model each week based on exciting themes from space to sports, amusement parks to animals.
Trained, screened Bricks 4 Kidz teachers lead a discussion related to that day’s model, using materials designed by educators to teach concepts across a variety of subject areas. Kids will learn about everything from gears, torque and friction, to geography, space exploration, weather and more. Working with a partner, kids experience the hands-on fun of model building, from concept to completion. All of the models are designed by Bricks 4 Kidz model designers, so you won’t find them on the shelves of your local toy store.
Chess has long been regarded as a game that can have beneficial effects on learning and development, especially when it is played from a young age. Coach Michael Young has been teaching chess to students for 8 years at public and private schools throughout Hillsborough county and is the president of “Chess for Florida,” a charitable organization that donates chess instruction and equipment to low income and inner city families. Chess sessions will include “focus on beginners” lessons, advanced activities for experienced players,
and a mini-tournament at the end of each session. Chess Club is offered to all Elementary and Adolescent students.
Soccer Shots is a nationally recognized program that offers a high energy, fun and age-appropriate introduction to the wonderful game of soccer. In addition to soccer, we work on improving children’s gross motor skills and teaching children important concepts such as teamwork, sharing and respect. Soccer Shots instructors are enthusiastic and passionate about working with kids. Our goal is simple: to leave a lasting, positive impact on every child we serve! Soccer Shots classes are grouped by classroom and are offered to all CMS students.
The Community Montessori Singers Boys & Girls Chorus will be open to all Lower and Upper Elementary and Adolescent students! Our Music Instructor, John Barr, will direct the program. Students will learn proper breathing and singing techniques, ear-training, how to sing in unison and then in harmony, along with learning how to read the music we will be learning. We plan on including the chorus in the May Music Recital and other events as we move forward. Chorus is offered to all Elementary and Adolescent students.
ACT UP is a Drama Club offered to Elementary and Adolescent students at Community Montessori School. Theater offers a positive outlet of expression that many children, teens, and adults have not been able to fully find anywhere else. The mission of ACT UP! is to empower its students by promoting self-expression, team building, strengthening creativity, and building communication skills.
All of ACT UP! ‘s classes are taught by highly trained professional actors. It has been incredibly rewarding to witness our students’ creativity and self-confidence blossom and grow through the course of their classes. Each session ends with a performance for the students’ family and friends.
