CMS Admissions

Call our Admissions Office at 813-886-2050 and
speak to Sharlene Deklerk to set up a tour.  She will
be happy to answer any additional questions you may
have about CMS!

Applications are accepted throughout the school year
when openings exist. Invitations to re-enroll are issued
to current students on a yearly basis beginning in
February or March.

Each prospective family is asked to carefully read our
school literature and spend time observing our
classes. We ask both parents and student to visit and
tour CMS to experience firsthand the child’s reaction
to the Montessori environment. This also provides a
great opportunity to answer questions that will help
with this important decision.  After the parent tour
and student visit are complete, the family will receive
an application packet to complete.

Once the application is completed and returned to the
Admissions Office the Head of school will discuss
classroom placement with teachers.  Upon Admission,
families will receive a detailed packet of information
concerning School Policy and Procedures.

If there are no openings, families will be placed on a
waiting list. When placing children from the list, we
consider readiness, age and gender of the child as
they relate to the particular class balance as well as
previous school experience.

Community Montessori School is committed to
bringing young people together from a broad
spectrum of ethnic, national and religious
backgrounds. We welcome diversity and encourage
our students to broaden their perspectives of the
world through friendships, mutual respect and
understanding.  We welcome students of any race,
color, national and ethnic origin, and accord them all
rights and privileges offered in school-administered
programs.  We embrace this non-discrimination policy
and do not treat members of the greater school
community differently based on race, creed, color,
national origin, religion, ancestry, gender, sexual
orientation, age, disability or marital status.

Each new application is carefully considered
according to the student’s individual talents and
learning style. Our goal is to ensure that our school
will be able to offer the best possible learning
environment to meet the applicant’s specific needs.
We are committed to helping families make the best
match between student and school by striving to
assure that the goals and values of each student and
family are in alignment with our school.

Admission  will be granted on the basis of submission
of all application and enrollment materials, payment of
all applicable fees, and mutual agreement between
parents, administrators and teachers following a
successful child visit.

The learning techniques and routines in a Montessori
classroom differ from those in a more typical
classroom setting.  Learning is accomplished
individually by each child, as directed by his or her
own pace and interests, under the supervision and
guidance of specially trained teachers and assistants.
Classroom visits are an especially important factor in
the admissions process at CMS because they allow
parents, teachers and students alike to gain a feel for
the "fit" of our unique educational style. Older
students who have not previously attended a
Montessori school will require special attention as
they transition to their new learning environment.

Because a complete Montessori education is built on a
series of three-year cycles from preschool through
adolescence, admission to the program at Lower
Elementary, Upper Elementary and Adolescent levels
without prior Montessori experience will be discussed
by the parents, teachers and Head of School.

Montessori Musings
Education should no longer be
mostly imparting of knowledge,
but must take a new path,
seeking the release of human
potentialities. The word
education must not be
understood in the sense of
teaching but of assisting the
psychological development of
the child.
