Program Description

Our Adolescent program is specifically developed according to Maria Montessori’s principles and focuses on humankind’s interdependency with the natural world.

For the adolescent, the prepared environment extends beyond the classroom. It encompasses the land on which the school resides, the neighborhood where the school is located, and the city in which the neighborhood is situated.

The CMS Adolescent Program connects our students to the land, to their local community, and to their place in society and human history. This connection to the land and the community become the foundation for the introduction to adult society and the history of humanity.

We provide a safe and nurturing environment in which our students can become conscientious and educated individuals prepared to join society and make peaceful contributions to their community and the world. Community life is an integral part of our curriculum. Our students take an active role in the classroom community by participating in council meetings, seminars, and group discussions. It is essential that our students understand how necessary and important social collaboration is in the classroom as well as in society as a whole.

Our program strives to create an environment in which each individual feels safe and secure, can contribute to the good of the whole, and can respectfully and freely express his or her opinions. We have created an environment for work and study that meets the needs and psychological characteristics of the adolescent.

Our program provides a range of experiences to satisfy a young person’s needs for intellectual stimulation, creative expression, independence, responsibility, social development, and personal growth. The integrated, three-year curriculum includes sciences, humanities, mathematics, foreign languages, literature and language arts studies, a wide range of fine arts, and diverse physical education experiences.

Adolescent students are required to wear approved school uniform. Our curriculum meets and exceeds Florida public school standards.
